Trying out facebook

While working here, the company decided to try a stab at Facebook with a few games, Faunasphere and My tribe. I was on My Tribe and when I started on it, i did the loading page followed by allot of assets for a year. It was fun but unfortunately going up against Zynga and dealing with Facebooks’ changing the rules so that you can’t spam your friends (i really appreciate that i don’t get Farmville invites anymore), it had to come to an end with Faunasphere closing down first and a few months later My Tribe. It was fun, i was sorry to see it go, but at least I have the loading page ;).

The Old Scotsman

No idea how this little guy poped into my head, but i had to do something different. So many things are changing in my life at the moment that before I started my Monday, I wanted to get this out. I think of him as a old grumpy Scotsman that toots something terrible.

I will soon post about the road i’m about to take…a road less traveled by, an adventure! with The Man. I’m very excited and hope this will lead to something bigger, exciting and fun.

“…Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.” -Robert Frost

Still looking for ‘Blue’

It’s been 16 days since my beloved Baby Blue Brodie Romax 2007 was lifted off the front of the bus I was taking by an &@#$*% who watched when I was distracted for 5 min and took her from me. I’ve never had a Bicycle stolen from me and when this happend on top of a month that had been what i call ‘pay back’ for a life that is usually full of love and laughter, i felt violated. I looked everywhere, put up posters, went on to craigs list, Pink bike, Kijijji etc. and the only thing i got was a guy who e-mailed me letting me know the night (lets’ call the guy who stole my bike John Doe) John Doe  took the bike, he road it to Hastings ( if your looking for drugs that’s where you go) and was selling it for $40. The guy who wrote to me said he only had $30 and he couldn’t get it back for me, but that he will keep an eye out. My bike was so fully packed and amazing i know it was worth $1000 easily, but this guy needed  quick fix. Thankfully hey got him on camera but I wish they would give me the picture. Unfortunately it only goes to the cop who has the file.

So after looking for a week for a new ride I finally called Brodie who directed me to the most amazing bike shop. ‘Mighty Riders’ on broadway and Ontario street, fitted me to my new bike, and the best part? A baby blue Brodie Romax 2012, with a red accent. I just love Brodie and I just can’t let go of a baby blue cyclecross bike. I have been riding ‘Blue bird’ (my new bike) for a week and she is so much lighter, faster and smoother…but i continue to look for my baby blue bike, as they are slim to none bikes like mine and since summer is upon us, I’ll find who ever has her and get her back.

So if you see this bike let me know. She is still very special to my heart as she was given to me by one of my closest and best friends Kris.

My assignments for Sam

I had taken this class last year and it has helped me immensely. If you don’t know photoshop and the basics of light and shadow you might find this class a bit hard to understand. Everything you see here has been done in Photoshop, nothing was cheated by putting it into a 3D program (sorry I’ve been asked so many times if I have and I don’t understand why one would do that if your taking this class to learn).

Ideas in motion

Swimming with a Turtle.

When I was little I made a list of things i’d like to do in my life. Part of that list I still remember. The list itself I know is in a sketch book I have. Where the sketchbook is you ask? I have no idea.

This list had the usual dreams of a little girl, like riding a horse on a beach, going in a hot air balloon and swimming with dolphins. I did not manage to swim with the Dolphins, but I did swim with a few turtles. Turtles are such beautiful creatures and seem wise. So wise I thought if I could just touch them, I would see the world through there eyes. Then again it’s not hard to see we are going down the toilet bowl.

When I went to Maui with The Man 2 weeks ago, we went to a small little area that was said to have some wonderful snorkeling called La Perouse Bay. There we met a Parks officer policing the waters making sure no one was stealing fish to sell to aquariums – didn’t even cross my mind until he told me- and he mentioned that at Makena Landing Beach Park in a secret little cove two turtles had decided to rest. The Man and I an hour or so later, made our way to this little secret cove and took our snorkling gear, aqua sox and went searching for Turtles. No turtles had been found, and as we where about to leave, until a boy on the other side of this cove at the highest point had spotted 2 swiming with the waves. At this point the waves started to come in high and if i jumped in I knew I would have a hard time getting out. Needless to say I was too excited to see these turtles to give it a second thought. So I took my mask and jumped in letting the wave carry me passed the stones and the sea urchents. Sea urchins don’t scare me once I was wearing shoes! ( take that Sea urchin!)

I looked for the turtles in a murkey and wavy sea and suddenly I came face to face with one. I am not kidding! I was a foot away from his head and I offered him a banana…. he probably thought “oh my god did that turist just offer me a Banana? excuse me do I look like a monkey to you!”

I was thinking they would accept the Banana and sit down for tea with me while we chat about the meaning of life. Needless to say the reaction I got from this turtle was along the lines of  “where the hell did you come from and how do I get by you”. I got right out of the way, as he swam by me I tuched his little fin and shell and watched him go into the misty waters. It was an amazing moment as much as it might not have been a shared happy moment, but it opened me up to a world I never thought I could come close to until then and our trip was full of moments with whales coming up to the sale boat to invastigate, dolphins giving us a show and then rasing each other and the boat all the way from Molokini Island to Maalaea Bay.

I also swam with an other turtle while ‘Snuba diving’ and just about touched this one until my instructor pulled my leg and said “they can bight your finger off!” (picture below). I probably would not have jumped into the waters the day before, chasing a turtle if I knew that…ignorance is bliss!

Overall our trip to Maui was far from Relaxing. We both like adventure and we both like to see it all. We managed a hike though a bamboo forest, jumped into pools and waterfalls and traveled from the Kapalua down to Makena, up to Kahului, to Hana and around the Volcano to the airport all in 5 days.

Maui is so versatile. From beautiful white beaches, volcanic rock, and palm trees and as you take the road to Hana, a forest consumes you, waterfall after waterfall, cliff anfter cliff and a little road with 100 bridges that fit 1 small car at a time. It was magical! If we go again, The Man and I are spending more time in Hana.

A wonderful trip! Now I need a vacation from my vacation!

Next trip I hope to cross off Hot air balloon or horse back ride on a volcano or a beach.

Memories of OvO and my Big Brothers.

A long time ago when I had just finished school and was on my way to University, my mother and I stopped by London- UK to visit one of my brothers who was living there at the time. Growing up, the youngest of my big brothers was a big influence on my taste in music. Our family was very musical and we all enjoyed and appreciated every and any style of song. From the classical notes of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, to the oddities of Pink Floyd, Vangeli with his Chariets of Fire being my favorite (even though I have yet to see the movie) and everything in-between like Paul SimonAbba, Yianni, Nina Simone, Sinatra and so many more I feel guilty for not naming them in this post…although I know that would take a while.

Getting back to my brother, he was influenced and inspired by the lyrics and beats of U2 and as a little sister always looking up to her brothers, I enjoyed there music as well as The Doors (although I did not understand it at the time), Peter Gabriel, Brian EnoDepeche Mode, Erasure (there is a little cross over here with my eldest brother who I believe was the one into Erasure). Of course when I speak to my generation of people born in 1982 about this music, they give me a perplexed look of “Qua?”

Anyway, when visiting him he thought he would take us to the ‘Millennium Dome’ that had just been built,  a beautiful piece of Architecture and within in it a world, I felt, filled with imagination and artistry. It was a memory I remember fondly and I am reminded of it by the music and show that was done for the Millennium Dome by Peter Gabriel called ‘OVO’. Remember I had never seen Cirque du Soleil, so the feeling was amazing. The only way I could describe it is the first time you taist chocolate or the first time you ride your bike on a spring day with the sun glinting off your new bike. I wanted to fly up into the sky with the people who where dancing and swinging, suspended by little wires the audiance could easily erase from there mind and enjoy the emotion and feeling that went into a creation of such a beautiful story accompanied by the masterful music created by Peter Gabriel.

Needless to say The Man and I went to Maui last week (will be posting about that soon) and on the road to Hana, right when the sun had set and the forest consumed us as we travelled on this road small enough to fit one car, I put on Ovo and it filled me with smiles and tears.

If you find your self wanting to listen to an album built around a story that has influences from every part of the world, listen to Ovo. It ranks as one of my favorite albums, but also makes me all emotional.

Thanks little big brother for teaching me so much about music and introducing me to such beautiful and masterful musicians and of course, I am so lucky to have two brothers I could always lean on. Don’t forget to let your siblings know how much you love them. As far as I may be from my family, I try to let them know they are always in my thoughts and have helped become the person I am today.

Wedding invitation

Remember when I did those robot/dragon designs for a proposal a friend was making to his boyfriend? Well here are the wedding invitations. I gave him two options.

Merry Christmas

For this year I have decided to dedicate a little time after work, on our Christmas card.

Since I will not be flying back home to see my own family, as i haven’t go enough time to go all the way to Cyprus and then back to Canada (planing on carrying over some hours to the new year), i’ll be with them twice in 2012 for 2 beautiful weddings in May and September.

So to my beautiful family who are so far away, I thought i’d give you something worth keeping on the shelf after the holiday celebrations.

So here we are, our little family riding in Santas’ red slay, with our boys pulling us through the North Vancouver forest.

Merry Christmas everyone and I hope you all have a Happy New Year!
